Great Room

I was looking for an economical place to stay in San Juan and this room was great! Perfect, single person barracks room to use as a base for my adventures around San Juan. Old San Juan's restaurants and shops are an easy walk from the room. However, if you plan to do day trips out around the island, know that getting back in the evenings is a bit of a challenge due to the tourist foot traffic at night and road closures accompanying any of the numerous festivals when they are in progress. All-in-all, a great place to stay.

Great location !

I dropped in for a few days. It was an excellent plan to get away from the cold! If you’ve served in the military, this room will meet all of your expectations. There was a nice modern flatscreen to watch the Super Bowl. The room provided everything I needed. It was nice and clean. But the thing that was the most enjoyable was the location because I could walk right into old San Juan. It is a very safe location. I met a very nice couple at the Chiefs Mess. Thank you for the hospitality! I really hope I come back soon!

Service Award

Good afternoon; First and foremost thank you to all the MWR staff and especially to Mariola Laboy for outstanding customer care during my stay at Gonzalez Hall . I had an opportunity to experience my life long dream of living in old SanJuan . Most importantly I had to make the decision not to make San Juan my primary residence, but yes visit as many times as possible, my health permitting. You helped me live a great vacation. Thank you. Very appreciative!!!

We had 3 rooms for 3 nights and everything worked out perfect! The rooms were clean and organized and instructions were easy to follow. In addition to this and so important to us was the excellent customer service we received from the moment I approached the staff. Mariola Laboy was a joy to work with. She communicated with me in a timely manner and was very clear and organized with all the information she shared. Before and during our stay she stayed in touch. Edith - from housekeeping was so kind to us. So friendly and made us feel at home. I'm in the hospitality industry and can say we received first class treatment. Thank you to the entire Coast Guard family. Happy holidays!

Enjoyable Stay

Enjoyable Stay I heard about the USCG Base San Juan MWR Lodging when I booked a cottage for a couple of day with family at USCG Borinquen MWR Guest Houses in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. I wanted to spend time with family before hurricane season, so I went to https://www.coastguardmwr.org/coast-guard-lodging and found a suitable room that fitted my needs. I was an Infantry soldier for twenty-five years of my life, so I wasn’t looking for much and found it in the Gonzalez Hall single room 208. The room was a big surprise, it’s a small room for one person (as shown on the website) but has everything. The room has a writing desk and an old fashion stable chair, there is a high ceiling closet with hangers and cable tv mounted on a two draws nightstand. There is a large ironing board with iron and next to the bed is a nightstand with lamp. The refrigerator is medium/large with separate freezer with microwave on top and the bed is a twin, firm but comfortable. The bed has a comforter on top and two sheets beneath it and one pillow. The air conditioning system is pre-programmed, and occupants are warned not to tamper with the controls; the room becomes cold at night, so the bed comforter is a necessity for a good night’s sleep. The bathroom has a commode and medium sized shower and just outside the bathroom is a sink with attached mirror. The Gonzalez Hall building is located roughly two blocks from the main gate and the MWR rooms are located on the second floor. The laundry facilities are located on the first floor and open 24/7. There is a USO recreation center with Wi-Fi, computers, tv’s and video games it is also open 24/7 and located on the first floor. The USO is for permanent party individuals, but guests can still use it. The USO office is at the recreation center but if you need information, they’ll refer you to MWR personnel on the second floor. The fitness center weight room is open 24/7. It has older equipment, but you can still have a great workout. The cardio room is located next to an adjoining building and has treadmills, ellipticals, and stationary bikes and is also open 24/7. The post exchange is under construction but there is another small PX. and is located next to the main gate and is open 24/7 and is only manned during the day. Using the honor system purchases are made using self-checkout and credit or debit card only. Alcoholic beverages are only available at certain times. There is an NCO club next to the PX for grade E-7 and above, if open you must ask permission to enter and if allowed it is self-served (no bartender). Everything on the post is about Integrity so if you like to drink a lot, I suggest you throw a hundred dollars or better in the money jar to play it safe. The Old San Juan Banco Popular building is located roughly three blocks from the main gate, and from there, there is a smorgasbord of restaurants, bars, stores, and museums.

Great Facilities

I stayed at Gonzalez Hall for a work event, but it felt like I was there on vacation too! The room was clean and the perfect size for my luggage and work clothing. Everything I needed was a few steps away. I had to Uber to my destinations, but the walk to the front gate was short, and the guards were always pleasant and helpful. Sector San Juan is beautiful. During my spare time, I could walk Old San Juan in minutes and visit the historical within a 5 to 20-minute walk. Great place to book your stay!
